High School Equivalency Criteria

To be eligible to enroll a student in the high school equivalency program, the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Division of Education uses the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age
  • 2 years behind his/her 9th grade cohort
  • Length of stay at a correctional institution
  • Score at least 145 on the GED Ready as a qualifier to be administered the official high school equivalency test
  • Students’ reading grade level
  • Student interest in a post-graduate program
  • Previously enrolled in the high school equivalency program from another high school
