Research and Evaluation
The Department of Juvenile Justice's Research and Evaluation Section provides information and analysis to assist data-driven decision-making by Executive Staff in its efforts to manage the Department effectively and efficiently. Research and Evaluation also responds to information and analysis requests from affiliated agencies (local detention centers and group homes), Virginia state agencies, and local governments.
Specifically, Research . . .
- Provides quantitative and qualitative analysis of policies, legislative proposals, and management initiatives;
- Develops projections for the state responsible juvenile offender and detention home populations;
- Participates in a variety of long-range policy and planning initiatives with supporting research and analysis; and
- Manages and supports the Department’s strategic planning process
Evaluation . . .
- Provides the Department with process and outcome evaluations of programs and initiatives;
- Manages grants awarded to other Department sections;
- Provides technical assistance for grant applications; and
- Provides technical assistance to other Department units for evaluation planning
