General Information
Situated on 1,806 acres of land in Hanover County, Hanover Juvenile Correctional Center was established in 1898 and has been State-owned and operated since 1920. The facility currently offers services and programs for males ages 12-18, and is budgeted to accommodate 120 juveniles.
Offering highly specialized treatment services through its residential Sex Offender Treatment Program, Substance Abuse Education, and Anger Management, Hanover stresses the importance of education, communication and coping skills along with utilizing group, peer counseling, and working with families in pre-release planning. A variety of campus activities such as intramural sports, including flag football, volleyball, track basketball, and swimming are available. The Department of Correctional Education operates the educational program, and juveniles attend school on campus. Vocational training is offered in addition to academic classes and Junior Reserve Officers Training (JROTC). Juveniles are also given the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED).
Visitation Information
Visitation is held weekly on Sundays, and parents are notified by letter of designated times.

- Only immediate family members may visit (father, stepfather, mother, stepmother, grandparents, legal guardians, siblings, spouses, and children)
- Juveniles can have no more than four visitors at a time
- Visitors must provide their own transportation as public transportation is not available
- Incarcerated juveniles are not allowed to possess personal property
- They cannot receive packages, magazines, newspaper subscriptions, or forward mail from adult or juvenile correctional centers
- Money can be mailed in the form of money orders or cashier's checks only
