Welcome to the Department of Juvenile Justice Training and Development Unit. One of the key components of an organization’s ability to be successful in reaching its goals is investing in its employees. As an agency committed to attracting, developing, and retaining a highly-skilled workforce, the Department of Juvenile Justice offers comprehensive training programs and a wide variety of professional development opportunities for all levels of employees and community partners. Whether mandated by legal or regulatory requirements, agency-driven initiatives, career-specific training, or opportunities for professional and organizational development, the training academy staff and adjunct instructors deliver a wide spectrum of courses from entry-level secure residential services and annual regulatory requirements to legal, medical, mental health, and technology-related topics. Additionally, we have introduced a comprehensive supervisory and leadership development program and a multitude of special-request and unit-specific training courses and conferences.
Whether at our fully equipped training academy located at the Virginia Public Safety Training Center in Hanover County, regionally at various sites throughout the Commonwealth, or onsite for one of the many agency and local organizational units we support, our programs and courses are designed to meet the various needs of our employees and community partners.
The Virginia Public Safety Training Center is a convenient centrally-located facility for state and local government agencies to share resources, ideas, expertise, and best practices in a collaborative and cost effective way.
