Behavior analysis is a scientific discipline that focuses on describing, understanding, predicting and changing behavior. Our Behavior Analytic Team coaches and supports our Education and Rehabilitative Care staff to develop and implement evidence-based, data-informed strategies designed to increase appropriate behavior, which ultimately improves BAJCC’s ability to deliver effective educational and therapeutic services. We utilize the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, a trauma-informed, multi-tiered support system that emphasizes social/emotional learning. Team members are supervised by a Licensed Behavior Analyst who oversees the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies.
Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, three-tiered framework that integrates all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes. When used as part of a multi-tiered support system, PBIS has demonstrated that it significantly improves student behavior, leading to improved academic performance and positive emotional growth (see links in Resources).
To create and teach consistent behavioral expectations, YBMHS students and staff created the “Cougar Classroom.” The PBIS team meets monthly and includes staff volunteers from across YBMHS departments.
