During spring break, ASPIRE intervention program participants took a trip to Jamaica, where they enjoyed tropical vibes, reggae music and local cuisine – all within the walls of Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center.
Residents of the ASPIRE unit got ready for their journey by applying for passports, making travel plans and budgeting. At the “airport,” they went through a TSA security checkpoint, presented their passports and boarding passes, and took their seats for the international flight.
Upon arriving to the Caribbean island, they engaged in activities such as line dancing, playing baseball, and taking a virtual reality tour. Beneath palm trees, they sipped fruit punch and dined on dishes such as rice and peas, jerk chicken, curry chicken, stewed cabbage, pineapple upside down cake, strawberry cake and fresh fruit – which they also helped prepare.
