The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) recently graduated the largest class of juvenile correctional specialists (JCSs) in ten years. Thirty-one trainees successfully completed the three-week Basic Skills Class and the three-week Officer in Training Program that followed. Over the last ten years, average class sizes ranged from just five to twenty students.
The new JCSs began their journey in June at a large Human Resources-sponsored recruiting event in Midlothian. Potential candidates first attended a residential training team presentation then met with Human Resources. For candidates who were still interested, DJJ conducted interviews on the spot and sent the candidates for background and medical checks. The candidates DJJ selected then attended a new employee orientation and began Basic Skills Training. After successful completion of Basic Skills Training, candidates went on to the Officer in Training Program, which concluded on August 15.
DJJ congratulates these new JCSs and looks forward to seeing them make a difference in the lives of the youth we serve.
