JULY 8, 2025

On June 16, 2025, the Reentry, and Interventions Department of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice partnered with Dominion Energy for A Day at Dominion Energy. During this event, five youths on parole toured the Dominion Energy Training Facility. They were welcomed by Ann Jones, Vice President of Operations Support, Darius Johnson, Vice President of Human Resources, and other Dominion team members.

The day featured a comprehensive agenda designed to expose at-risk youths to potential career paths within various operational units, including power delivery, welding, solar energy, fire safety, and communications. The staff introductions were both impactful and relatable for the youths. Dominion Energy team member Kenneth Miller, Senior Instructor for Power Generation shared, “I enjoy the job that I do because I barely graduated high school and had to find a job that was hands-on. I enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together, and seeing it run afterward gives me satisfaction. Eventually, it became my career.”

Following a morning of engaging discussions and introductions, the youths began their tour, equipped with hard hats, safety vests, and protective glasses. The youths actively participated by asking insightful questions and received immediate answers, gaining a clear understanding of what a typical day working at Dominion Energy might entail. Some participants explored the possibility of joining the Dominion team by leveraging their previous experience and skills in various operations.

The purpose of this event was to provide the youths with industry insight and to prepare them for future employment opportunities. Prior to the event, DJJ Reentry and workforce staff worked with the youth to develop resumés and portfolios and also practice interview skills. The youths were encouraged to bring their resumés and portfolios to network during their time at Dominion. The Reentry, and Interventions Department looks forward to continuing this partnership with Dominion Energy and hosting similar initi-atives to support at-risk youths in building better futures.
