Yvonne B. Miller Principal Participates in VAPSP

OCTOBER 10, 2025

Dr. Mark Hudson recently participated in the Virginia Principal Support Program (VAPSP), a collaboration between James Madison University’s College of Education and school divisions across Virginia. VAPSP seeks to foster a robust workforce of principals who demonstrate effective leadership, champion best practices in safe and supportive learning environments, and ensure equitable and inclusive educational opportunities for all students, including those with disabilities.

Over a six-month period, Dr. Hudson met with a network of colleagues and partnered with principals across the Commonwealth to engage in critical conversations about what matters most in school leadership and learning. To support those discussions, VAPSP provided participants with continuous, non-evaluative, customized learning opportunities aligned with national and state leadership standards.

Reflecting on his participation in the program, Dr. Hudson observed, “It is always great collaborating with other school leaders. Yvonne B. Miller is a unique setting, but at its core, leading schools, growing positive cultures, and being intentionally guided by purpose, growth, and meaningful impact have common, enduring threads. This experience gave me the opportunity to participate in a learning community and bring the knowledge gained to DJJ.”

DJJ School Superintendent Deana Williams says, “We are proud of Dr. Hudson’s commitment to the Virginia Principal Support Program, which strengthens leadership and supports our mission to provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality learning for all students.”
